Reykjavík, Iceland-based black metal act Nyrst was formed in the year 2013 with the aim of creating the coldest, most eerie and barren soundscape possible.
After the release of their demo in 2016 and a full length debut album in 2020, a dense atmospheric experience which gained much praise for perilous melodies and intense vocals, Nyrst display a vicious prowess in their craft uncharacteristic of a band so young into their career.
In 2019, Nyrst signed with the Norwegian label Dark Essence Records for the release of their debut full length album “Orsök”, gaining great reviews from around the world and quickly captivating audiences from the black metal scene with the unveiling of their music video for the title track of the album. With no signs of ceasing their cold cacophony Nyrst are already intent on their audial onslaught performing at festivals around the globe.
NYRST’s follow up album “Völd” builds on the band’s early promise and the desire of its members – Snæbjörn on vocals, Eysteinn and Davíð on guitars, Egill on bass, and Sveinbjörn on drums, to create the coldest, most eerie and barren of soundscapes possible.
“Völd”, which, roughly translated, means “force, power or might”, is an unapologetic homage to Iceland’s immense volcanoes. Its music conjuring forth images of the unrelenting and unforgiving harshness of nature that has dominated every living being in this land.
“Nyrst manage to mix an independent sound from the Icelandic trademarks. The fact that they don’t sound quite as harsh as most of their colleagues at one point or another rather shows that the special Nordic soundscape allows for further development potential.”
